What are your reasons for blogging?
How can a blog help your business?
Blogs can be used to:
- Brand yourself
- Build your list
- Promote your products
- Share your content to places such as Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn
- Give you an online home base
But beware before you start blogging …
Think about the purpose of your blog. Why are YOU blogging? What is your desired outcome? What do you want your visitors to do?
Here are five possible outcomes for you to think about – things your blog can do for you.
Collect emails –
Do you want to collect emails on your blog – is that why you are blogging?
If so, have you got a capture form on every page and post? Is it clear? Have you got something of value to give your visitors who opt in to your form? Why would a visitor give you their email?
Create discussions –
Do you want visitors to comment, like, and share your content?
Yes? Have you asked for comments? Are your posts controversial? Thought provoking? Do they spark a lively conversation?
Sell a product –
Is your main purpose to sell a product? Have you written useful information about your product? Is it a onetime sale or are you looking for repeat customers? Is your method of purchasing smooth and easy?
Redirect visitors to your primary (MLM) company –
Multi Level Marketing companies have replicated sites – often called cookie cutter sites – for their distributors. These sites can be very useful for giving information about your company, getting others to join you, and to sell products. However, these sites do not SEO well – meaning they do not rise in the search engines because they are all the same and Google will not index them. Google indexes unique content.
However, you can use your blog to provide unique, valuable content. Then link to your company (cookie cutter) site. This is a great way to effectively use your blog.
Book appointments –
Is your desired outcome to book appointments? Are you encouraging people to get in touch with you? Are you in a consulting business? There are many free programs you can use to set up an appointment calendar on your blog.
In conclusion have a clear intention
in your mind as to what outcome you want, the purpose of your blog, and the value you are giving to your visitors – this will make it easier to write your articles, maintain your blog, and drive traffic to your blog.
Knowing the outcome you desire for your blog also helps you to narrow down your niche, find good keywords and ultimately reach your goal of building a profitable home business.
