Yesterday, I had a flashback of when I was at my last job and how I was sent home because of the sandals I was wearing. They “allowed” me to go home during my lunch since the time was not paid. I rushed home, grabbed another pair rushed back, had to find a parking spot and barely made it back to my desk ime. The dress code required that if you wear sandals, they had to have a strap around the ankle (which mine did). I was sent home because my sandals were flat-apparently they have to have a heel too.
Even though I worked in a call center that was not open to the public, therefore customers could not see-or even care for that matter!
As a customer myself, whenever I had to call into a call center to handle a business matter, never once did it come to mind to ask the representative what they were wearing and if it was in violation of their employers dress code.
Since then, I made it a point to have extra sets of clothes and shoes in the car. The HR employee that sent me home never saw me in violation, it was my co-workers that would sneak and go tell on me. Just when you though you were done with Junior High!
The end result is that job laid me off November 2012, and that was the best thing that has ever happened to me! So now I can pursue my 10 year old dream of working from home, while being for business for myself…full-time! No more dress code for me!!!
