As I mentioned on my first blog it took some steps in order to make the most of the daily method of operation.
The first on my list is listing my goals and follow by “Tracking Time” and I will tell you why. In the past I don’t track my time especially when I am in the zone. At first I think it is cool but it is not. Once I identified my goals, I examined how am I currently spending my time.
Questions came up such as; Am I working on the things I should be doing, the things that will allow me to reach my goals or am I getting bogged down by unrelated tasks or unexpected challenges.
In truly understand where am I spending my time and to identify whether I should adjust my workload, I started tracking my work by a few hours or so. By doing that, when a specific work is not done as a specific time then I am not really giving my whole attention to my subject.
I discover that sometimes my result don’t align with my goals and that is where I have to walk away and re-adjust my schedule. The point here is to discover where is that misalignment is been residing so that I can correct it.
Writing down my activities is something I like to do. I listed all of the task I need to perform whether it exciting or boring (but I really don’t get bored). By doing this it help to look back over my calendar and to get sense of range of activities.
Then I break it down to four categories so I can track down the amount of time I need to spend doing tasks in each category.
My categories are:
Daily Activities- which is my day-to-day tasks that highlight my main job.
Personal Growth- activities and projects that I find meaningful and valuable but it is not part of my everyday responsibilities.
Crises and Fires- these are interruptions and urgent matters that arise occasionally and unexpectedly.
Whatever- is where things that I must do whenever.
After breaking them down in categories it help me to visualize how am I really spending my time and I also got a sense of whether this is align with the goals I had identified.
I have more to share but I am going to leave it open to see if anyone will read it.
If it does, I will continue writing about this subject.
If not, I will additional blog but with a different topic.
