Hurricane SANDY – Once Was Enough!

Well, that was an experience!  I don’t think our community could have been in a better place for the storm to have passed through as the greater damages from rainfall, flooding and wind damage was North and South of Dalmatia PA.  We had significant rainfall, some water in the basement but nothing that the primary sump pump was not able to handle.  I was concerned that some of the limbs of the huge Red Maple that’s close to the house might snap/break from the high winds and gusts but it’s still intact.  Most all the leaves had already fallen and I think that made the difference.  We had a loss of power but it only lasted 4 hours.  I had plenty of gas for the generator (15 gal) to keep the sump pump(s) operating and hooked the TV on a separate line.  I was going to alternate that with the refrigerator and the microwave if needed.

Other areas of the Eastern US were not so fortunate.  I’m watching the Weather Channel and have been viewing pictures on the internet of the destruction this storm has caused….and “all that snowfall” to the West!  We have some minor clean-up but I know we can really “count our blessings” and Give Thanks.  My thoughts and prayers to those less fortunate whose lives were impacted significantly by this storm.

I am a retired Navy Department civil employee that worked in various aspects of Supply Administration and International Logistics. I served in the U. S. Navy for 10-/1/2 years. After federal retirement, I worked in different jobs such as electrical contracting, building and remodeling residential homes, merchandising for a coffee company and commercial truck driving OTR, Regional and Local (vans, tankers and auto transport). I'm married with two grown children. My wife is still employed as a Postal Mail Handler. I live in a small, rural community that is 5 miles to the nearest town, just a stone's throw off the Susquehanna River and otherwise surrounded by mountains and farmland. (lots of deer, wild turkey, raccoons that visit the back deck nightly for their ration of dry cat food, and other small game......Bald Eagles can be seen daily flying overhead or at the river....both adults and juveniles....and many other small game, endless varieties of birds, etc......rather a Country Paradise). I enjoy gardening, boating and fishing in my homemade airboat, playing Euchre and "bending elbows" with my buddies at the local Firehouse Social Club, cooking (I rarely measure unless it's a new recipe I'm trying out) and working outside in the yard. I have been working and developing a Global NPN business since May 2011.
