The amount of people who are a part of the workforce is at its lowest point in 35 years. This is a sign of an aging population and the unemployed being unmotivated to search for jobs.
This could become an even bigger problem soon because some of the people who have been out of work for more than six months have already lost their unemployment benefits. Congress is debating whether or not to renew for a sixth year an emergency program that previously paid benefits averaging around $256 a week.
One of the requirements for someone to receive an unemployment check is that they have to actively look for a job. However, if these individuals payments are stopped. Most of them who are unemployed will likely stop looking for a job. Honestly, they want have much of a choice. You need money to make money. Especially, when it comes to getting to and from job interviews. If a person has their check stopped. They will no longer be counted as unemployed and no longer considered part of the labor force. (Which is saddd….)
