25 things you didn’t knew about Marie

Before we go the list I want you to follow me with

              your own 25 things

I became inspired from this from my gratitude to life and I want you to write down
your own 25 things along with me, – well you can even do a blog post about it yourself
and link it with mine 🙂

1. I was so lucky to meet the love of my life on an airplane to Island on a vacation. My
spouse is a very private person, – old fashion but full of love to a few selected
friends and me. From a point of respect and love this is how far I will go to declare my love
publicly.

2. Not every wish come true, – we have never been able to get kids. I love kids, – but I
have to spread that love on other parents kids. I was a scout in my youth – 17 years –
including some years as leader. What kept my moving on and on was the love of kids and
teenagers – and see them gain skills and fun experiences before they moved up to another class.

3. I am so happy and grateful that we have a cat
called Speedy, to read more about Speedy,

4. I am so grateful that I have humour, it puts life and ‘odd situations’ in a different
perspective (like the picture here). I still have a hard time remembering funny stories, but
when it comes to word juggles when words either rime or can be said with a different
tonality and mean something totally different or making new words in a humorous way, –
that’s me. I have even begun using it in my 2nd language, – English.

5. I am so happy and grateful that interest in architect drawings of houses in my youth
“unexpected” turned into a house in 2000. Unexpected because I had forgotten all about that
interest when we in 1997-1999 began looking for a new place for our home. The architectural
expression of other peoples houses, museums, and historical buildings still interests us in
layman terms.

6. I am so happy that I went out into the darkest of nights as a child and later as
grown up to gaze at the stars, – many thoughts, questions, friendships and equipment have
been a apart of my life…..

7. Astronomy, continued from #6. – I was so lucky to see Halley’s Comet in 1986 from Spain,
Solar eclipse in 1999 in Bulgaria and another solar eclipse in 2006 in Turkey all with
clear skies, and a large 23-part meteorite impact on Jupiter in my 6″ telescope from my back
yard.

8. I am so happy and grateful that my holistic interest in astronomy spread to earth science.
I have been collecting stones from most of Scandinavia, and Greenland even though the latter
was a gift from a girl friend also interested in Geology.

9. I am so happy and grateful for maps and memories connected to places I have been. I
nurture every travel locally and abroad – and done it or over 40 years. I keep pride in
remembering them to a degree where I often hear the comment: “Oh, – you have been here on
bike before?”.

10. I am so happy and grateful that I jumped into the water and bought my first computer in
1981. I has been a journey of continues growth over loyalty to several brands. Not only did
playing games in the first few years learned me skills, but my online presence and this
blogpost may never have seen the inside of your computerscreen, if not started early.

11. I am so happy and grateful that I learned about “Colossal Cave” – a text based adventure
game
from the age of 32bit mainframes and downgraded to homecomputer size (just black screen with white text, no pictures or videos). I enhanced my skills in 3D and memory skills from the pictures I needed to remember to survive the creatures.
There was 351 rooms with traps, 4 directions plus up and down, keys to be founds and used
elsewhere, spells to be said and confusing parts with labyrinths where all rooms looked alike.

12. And #11 continued into the universe of Tolkien with Lord of the Ring and The Hobbit
and a couple other books from his hand. I have read them several times and seen the film in
the movie with the best screen and sound equipment before buying them as DVD’s.

13. I am so happy and grateful for books, -all books, but those that are closes to my heart
apart from a very narrow selection of novels are personal development books, (plus maps 🙂 ),
Economy seen from international view and written to ordinary people. “What the world economy means to your pocket money and how to protect them“, has been my elevator speech for long. Most of the books I read are now in English, and it has averaged round 14 books a year the last 5 years – plus a few novels.

14. I am so happy and grateful for the nature around me, – everywhere on the planet. It
inspires me, keep my juices going, pump me up, gives me exercise, makes me change views from tiny details to the overall picture of the ecological system, from origin of plants and animals to modern days, and from all continents.

15. I am so happy and grateful that I (finally) learned about myself and then people through
my education as coach in 2008 (at age 51). Well, it’s not final in any way I learn everyday,
– what I menat was taking the money, time and commitment to be certified in a skill that is
close to my heart.

16. I have chosen to be grateful for the great lottery ticket of having grown up in a family
with good relationsships (my parents was married for 47 years). Both came from the middle class, my father from the lower end and my mother from the upper end. They didn’t turn every coin, but was not “rich” in neither money nor mindset, but rich in love and care. They made a
good beginning for me and my brother Tor.

17. I am so happy and grateful for starting out as entrepreneur back in 2006 as distributor
of Herbalife. Skills like coldcalling people on the other hand was done but but it was not
in any way successful. I did get a little income, but restrictions from authorities in Denmark
was the straw that broke my enthusiasm. What I did learn was going to events with 18.000 from
16 countries was not as scary as it sounded and the personal development that followed from
Jim Rohn and other motivational speakers was priceless, simply priceless!

18. The personal development world of books, DVD’s and mp3’s lead me into attending a seminar in California in 2007 with host, author and thought leader Vic Johnson. After a month
vacation in California, a couple of weeks in SF and a travel around from Napa Valley to the
mountains and back to Monterey and highway #1 (- and #1 in view(s) on that trip) we ended at
the 3-day seminar with 13 keynote speakers, – Whoow! ( – and new books to read etc. 🙂 )

19. I ventured into other kinds of online businesses and coaching programs, established a
company in Wyoming before I stumpeled on CarbonCopyPRO, – an online education in sale and marketing.
I remember them as very giving with regard to tactics, sales funnel and
events but since all was done for me I didn’t learned that part, – I could but
there was no incentive as a part time online marketer. Not enough hours to cope with
it when the products in the back-end – the high ticket programs had more interest and
challenges. I still treasure a lot of friends from all of the English speaking world
including a lot of Scandinavians.

20.As an engineer, and later project manager I have seen practical projects come to fruition
in all sorts of electro technical types of jobs:

  • Control systems to cement kilns
  • Intelligent road traffic signals for highways break offs (to prevent “stacking cars” on highway)
  • Security systems for railways in Denmark, Norway and Lithuania
  • District heating and power plants projects
  • 100% rehab of electrical substations without drop out of electricity to citizens and factories
  • Permanent air-dry system to prevent decay of steel in steel-composite bridge

– just to name a few.

21. Programming skills, – now forgotten – in Fortran, Algol, Assembler and C++
and in systems like DOS and UNIX that gave a background of understanding of the IT
world and at the same time hands-on knowledge that this skill should not be pursued,
– it was fun but too boring, – almost no social contact.

22. Speaking publicly is the most feared by most, even me and not only
publicly but also in my own family.
I learned a lesson when I didn’t dare to speak at my dear dear grandmothers 90 years birthday,
but let that job pass to my brother. I trained my mindset to be open for the next opportunity
to speak and realized that I needed training.
You can’t learn to drive a car from reading the manual, so I engaged in representing
my union on my job and learned it by taking initiativs. Another unexpected benefit from that
growth was I was able to speak with and have fun with the top executives on rare occasions
outside the meeting room. Dinners, sailing competition, yes, – even seqway. I saw it a chance
to rub shoulders of rolemodels from the upper class.

23. I suffer from a chronic disease that had to make me grow to cope with it. It is diagnosed
with three indicators
1. Ear-ringning – called Tinnitus
2. Reduced hearing
3. Reduced sense of balance

It’s called Meniere’s Disease, and due to 1-3 above, reduce my threshold
of stress to an almost daily phenomenon. Stress, -not as just “being busy” but as forgetting
words, appointments, loss of energy to walk and exercise. I had to make permanent changes
it my ambitions, lifestyle and way of earning income, – I had to think out of the box WHEN
I was able to think clearly – again due to 1-3.

24. Due to Meniere’s Disease I studied all I could from others
testimonials online, and meditation had helped a few. I have fallen “in love” with a
sound system based on brainwaves with meditation”music” above. It helps 40%,
leaving 60% to habits regarding keeping bedtimes, no longer workdays than 4 hours, meetings
where I am “on” to less that 2 hours, planning of not doing house cleaning the same day as
buying groceries etc. When I keep that schedule most days are fine, and my brain can work as before.

25. As #25 and the last number I will celebrate being on the right place at the
right time taking initiativ that scared me and at the same time made me grow: I became
Author of a book
for an e-book for small or solo-entrepreneurs called “Guide To Home Based Business“.

– I participated in a course on writing e-books on www.selfgrowth.com
where I also became an “expert”, and as a result I suggested our master mind
group
to make use of the course together and write a book. It was accepted, and within 2 months all 10 authors had written their chapter, graphics to homepage and e-bookcover
were made, endorsements from thought leaders captured, and a squeezepage edited by
ourselves – and the e-book launched in May 08.
Our facilitator and my friend Phil Johncock still manage the list and site. Everybody can
make an e-book, but in our case we have never met each other except on phone calls,
– that is a skill I use every day, – connecting people from the globe to common growth.

When I look at the list – and remember – my heart fills with gratitude even for my struggles.
If I haven’t had them, I would not have grown to who I am today.

…. Well did you reach 25 things as well? – Did you treasure your life?

… Life is lived forward and understood backward … Soren Kirkegaard once said (Danish philosopher).

When YOU take a look at YOUR 25 things, make them positive or the outcome positive. – Why?

Because you should treasure your thoughts – you become what you think about most of the time….

So make a choice – be positive,
– gain strength to hard times we all experience from time to time

and return to positive thinking again afterwards.

….. I can’t do that for you, only you have that power!!

– Empower yourself

You can learn about story telling and how to make it entertaining, even how to profit from it in

  • Thanks for sharing Marie – by seeing the world as a happy and grateful place to be – that is what it is!!

  • Marie Louise Steenbjerg

Thanks Corinne! I became inspired by yours and Melanie Jenners post of “25 things…” 🙂 You took leadership! I could have continued – by my purpose was not to overwhelm people but to inspire them to collect and treasure things to be grateful for (in the past and in the future). We often forget (even I) in a world filled with negative news. I often call CNN for “Constant Negative News” – we CAN see it Denmark too – but that “honor” do they share with most news sources. By adding this post the the World I can virally spread your idea….

    I have a bonus though 🙂
    26. Yesterday we went to a museum in Copenhagen established by the son of the founder of the world known beverage “Carlsberg”. IT’S AN ART museum, not “how the first bear was made”. I guess he too needed to share things to treasure. Statues from ancient Egypt, Greek, Roman, plus a lot from Danish artists inspired by the old forgotten masters, short 6 months displays of coins from a ship wreck in south of Sicily in Italy from 6 Roman emperors, French paintings from 1800-1900, beautiful halls with marble pillars, stone decorated floors, and a big water garden with 30+ meters high palmtrees and Coy fish in a pond. We didn’t had time to visit the Danish painters section. I “saw”, -inspired from my own blogpost above- his 25 things to be grateful  for – physical – ,-collected over 100 years ago. You become aware….. I hope I can inspire others to take the time and not only be inside looking but also preserve treasures of others. For my Danish readers and tourists the name of the museum is Glyptoteket, beside Tivoli in central Copenhagen.

Marie I read this post last week and could not post a comment because my computer broke but I truly was touched by your blog. You are an inspirational women. I look forward to reading more from you.

    • Marie Louise Steenbjerg

      Thank you Folksey !
I hope you already have found some of my footsteps online 🙂 I use the blog on EmpowerNetwork most – see link in post – but I also make networks off line – with entrepreneurs in Copenhagen.
I have recently opened a lot of doors and are now closing some of them again to focus. I have found that scary thing called blogging to be fun and exiting, – just a little step out of my comfort zone. Travel across the world attending marketing events to learn was a larger step, but if I feel just a little fear, I see it as a green light to go forward, if it didn’t challenged me, – it wouldn’t matter either and I would be off track….
See ya on my subscriber list someday – it’s not that scary 🙂
