Here’s the definition of “Charlatan” from Merriam-Webster… a person who falsely pretends to know or be something in order to deceive people.
You may be wondering why I chose to share this with you today.
Maybe not.
But here’s why…
I was watching a webinar today and the presenter was talking about offering affiliate products for sale.
A wannabe marketer asks…
“Can we become an affiliate without buying the product?”
The presenter said “Yes”.
I would submit to you that if you ever sell a product that you don’t own you are not a marketer, but a charlatan.
How do I justify this statement?
Because you’re gonna make all kinds of claims about the product in the sales funnel.
You’ll probably just use the sales material already provided.
You’ll probably copy the ads, the sales page and everything else.
What’s wrong with that, you ask?
Well, if you don’t own the product, you can’t possibly make any claims about it because you don’t know anything about it.
If you’re doing that, you’re a charlatan.
Because you’re claiming to have knowledge about the product in order to get people to buy it.
That’s a deception.
That makes you a con man.
It seems like everyone wants to know the latest strategies to induce people to buy stuff.
Yet they never seem to question whether they should be selling the stuff in the first place.
I endorse very few things.
Because I won’t endorse something I don’t use.
Besides, if you don’t use the product or haven’t gone through the training, it’s likely your marketing will be weak anyway.
Quit promoting stuff that you have no knowledge of.
It doesn’t matter how much money you make.
It’s not worth risking your reputation.
When you’ve found a product or service you’re willing to bet your reputation on, promote the heck out of it.
You’ll find everything you need to market your killer offers here.
Guard your reputation.
Only promote what you know to be awesome.
Your fans will love you for it.
