How to lose Friends and Aggravate People

I started emailing every day because I hate emails.

Sounds a little crazy, doesn’t it?

As odd as it sounds, it’s true.

See, I know that email is the single best way to market online. I also know that sending email to someone who doesn’t want it will never win friends or influence people.

So what changed?

I came into contact with a guy saying that I should email every day.

He said that his emails would come every day and that I’d not only open them, but I’d enjoy reading them.

I didn’t believe him.

He was right.

I still open his email every time he sends one and read every word.

Then I save them.

I’m not as good as he is yet, but he proved to me that I could email daily (and more) and people that resonate with what I have to say will love to read them.

Every one of them.

I keep putting them out, getting better and better.

Yet it stands to reason that some people won’t want them.

When that happens, shouldn’t it be easy to unsubscribe?

This is a support ticket I sent out this morning.

It’s to a company I have dealt with in the past, and I have no issue at all with their offers.

I just didn’t want to get their emails anymore.
Here’s the ticket…

I have unsubscribed from your emails.
The system refuses to unsubscribe me.

So I canceled my account.
Yet I’m still getting emails.

So I hit the unsubscribe link again.
The system refuses to unsubscribe me.

Please unsubscribe me from your list.
Ban my IP.
Whatever you have to do, please do it.

Your products are great.
I’ve used them before.

Yet I absolutely despise email systems that will not allow
me to unsubscribe.

From my point of view, this is spam.

This experience has put me off wanting to ever
hear from you again.

I realize this probably doesn’t matter to you,
and that’s OK.

I simply want to be able to unsubscribe when I don’t
want to receive emails anymore.

If you are sending emails, please make it easy to unsubscribe.
Believe me, you’re not gonna sell anything to someone who is pissed off at you because you’re holding them hostage on your list.

This doesn’t mean that I want you to unsubscribe.

I believe email is the best way for you to get to know us and learn what we’re all about.
