I read a post on Seth Godin’s blog the other day.
It follows nicely with some thoughts I’ve been sharing with you lately.
Seth was talking about some straw hats he had ordered for a party.
The company sent them in a plastic bag, probably because it’s cheaper than a box.
But the hats were ruined.
He didn’t get an answer (except for an autoreply) to his email.
There was no customer service phone number.
In order to save money, this company ruined Seth’s experience.
He didn’t get the hats he wanted for his party, and he’ll likely never do business with them again.
All because they wanted to save money.
Think about this for a minute, because it’s very important to your future in business.
Competing on price is a losing game.
Instead, make your business better.
How?
Improve your product.
Can’t do that because you’re an affiliate?
Improve your service.
Put in that extra little bit of effort that shows you care about your customer and their experience.
Rockit sells purses, jewelry and now coins online.
When someone buys an item from her, she will usually add a gift of handmade jewelry to the order.
She takes the time to pack the items carefully and box it up right.
Now that she’s dealing in coins, her attitude of service shows there, too.
She always puts the coins in a padded envelope.
They all get a tracking number, and she always gets them out the door within 24 hrs.
Here’s the thing…
If your business can’t command a premium price, up your game.
Improve your product.
Give a little extra.
Let ’em know you care.
Then let the world know about it using these systems.
When your customers start telling everyone they know about the excellent service you give, you’ll have more business than a guy selling cold drinks on a hot day.
Get started today.
