I sometimes get teased by people for being “Mr. Positivity”. I wasn’t always that way and sometimes negative thoughts creep in and overtake me for a bit, but the practice of self-awareness helps snap me out of that dark abyss of fatalistic ideas.
As a martial arts coach and writer it’s important for me to control my state of mind. It’s a challenging task at times but can be achieved through practice. That’s where keeping a journal comes in to play, which I’ll discuss in another article.
Keeping control of your state of mind and finding inspiration in the most unexpected places is what makes life so fun to live.
About 3 years ago my mind was full of negative thoughts and I felt as if I was drowning every day. It became so bad that my business started to fail and my marriage was suffering because of it all.
Fast-forward to now and I have more gratitude and a much different approach to living now. I used to be reactive and let my temper dictate my attitude. It’s a self-destructive way to live. When I started living more proactively and living to seek understanding, that’s when my mind started to open up more.
I spoke to dad, of one my students, and he asked, “How do you get inspired to write? Do you just sit down and write or do you have to think about it?”
This was a great question! I hadn’t thought about it but here was my response, “Well, I find inspiration in everything that surrounds me and every interaction I have with people.”
The conversation I had with that father was the inspiration this blog entry. Possibilities all around us. It’s whether we decide to see them or not. It’s that simple. You can’t see all the wonderful possibilities if you’re wrapped up in a victim state of mind.
Always blaming, always deflecting, always running from the truth.
The more I worked on improving myself the more I noticed the world around me and the more I noticed the world around me, the more I had to say, and the more I wanted to express myself.
It all starts in your mind. What state of mind will you decide to live in today and all your days.
Work on that first.
You want to be more inspired to become an even better writer, teacher, father, mother, or leader?
Then, start being great. Start living great now. Start treating people like they are the most important person on earth. Wake up every day and be thankful for another day of life.
Because one day, you will die. Stop wasting your days. Be inspired.
