It seems like this is a question growing on a lot of people’s minds. Why are so many people trying to move to online marketing? What’s the draw? Why is it so appealing? Well come with me and let me tell you a story about my friend Frank. Frank is a contractor I had doing a renovation with me and I’ll warn you this story is a bit sad.
Frank works hard and is a solid guy, he is a finishing carpenter and does beautiful work! He owns his company and works very hard! While he was working for us though he seemed to be split in his priorities. At first I thought this was because he had several jobs on the go and was just having a hard time keeping up. He had brought in some guys to help him, who were not the same level of professionalism as him. Well a few days into the job he came to my wife and I and was apologizing. The job had fallen a little behind schedule and he felt awful! It came as a complete shock when he told us that his wife was terminally ill. I was floored when he told me this! Here is this guy, hard worker, owns his own company and he is working virtually seven days a week and his wife is terminally ill and according to another source, she did not have long to live. It dawned on me that if he stops working, he stops earning money, and he can’t afford to have his income stop!? I felt awful for him but I realized that this is something I never want to experience. Something I never want any one to experience. In fact, he was at work as of yesterday and his wife is, to my knowledge, currently in the hospital! It is heart breaking!
The other thing I know for a fact is that many of you out there are in the same boat, and this scares the hell out of me! A person that is able to have family with them and a support system that holds them up have a much higher chance of a meaningful recovery! There are two ways to go about this, one of them is to be wealthy and retired. The other is to have a side business that can continue to generate income, even if you are not there to run it for a period of time, or it takes minimal time to keep it going.
